MESSAGE FROM JARED:

Our journey into the Gluten Free world started shortly after we were married in 2008.

Laurie was officially diagnosed with Celiac in 2009. Going gluten free has been a game changer in and for her health.

We operate as a Cottage Bakery, which means we bake and sell out of our own home, but have been in pursuit of a brick and mortar location, TBD.

All of our products are Gluten Free.

Since living with Celiac disease it has granted us the realities of living with food sensitivities. All of our tools and utensils are dedicated to the production of gf goodies.

Please check us out online at our website: www.deliberatosbakery.com or on facebook or instragram.

Insomnia Cookies

Celiac Beware. University Circle, Lakewood, W 6th St

Insomnia Cookies is a chain of bakeries that specializes in warm cookies, baked goods, and ice cream.

They offer a vegan gluten free chocolate chip cookie.

Caution from their website:

Our gluten free products are prepared in an environment where there is a risk of cross-contamination with gluten. Guests with Celiac or gluten sensitivities should know that we will do our best but cannot guarantee that your order will not touch gluten somewhere in the baking and service process.

And from their more explicit Allergen Statement:

Insomnia Cookies DOES NOT recommend these items for guests with Celiac disease.

Nevertheless, I visited the University Circle location (other stores on W 6th St and Lakewood).

The worker was knowledgeable and let me know the GF cookies were baked on separate sheets and stored separately above the gluten containing cookies.

I enjoyed the warm chocolate chip cookie. It was soft and packed with chips. I found it had firmed up a bit when I finished it several hours later.

I had no symptoms but would not recommend trying the cookie given the warnings.

Check out the Cafe

With a commitment to healthy dishes, artisanal beverages, locally roasted coffee, locally sourced teas, locally baked breads and pastries, local procured dairy and produce sourced locally whenever possible!

Stopped at the Cafe today to grab a smoothie, many on the menu to pick from, along with a ‘create your own’. Requested banana, pineapple, coconut yogurt and orange juice. Super creamy and tasty! Also tried the Protein Power Bowl. Seasoned rice base with kale, tomato, feta and chopped chicken (tempeh option offered). Everything was wonderfully fresh, beautifully presented and super tasty!

The shop carries dry goods, supplements, produce, bottled beverages and much more. Check it out! If your friends choose another dining option from one of the other local vendors you can take your order to go and all share a table at the Market Hall. Across the street – Mitchell’s Ice Cream – what could possibly be better?
