Zagara’s Marketplace offers their gluten-free grocery options shelved throughout the store in the same areas as the traditional products. When you browse the aisles you will find the specialty items items listed with a gluten-free label.

In January I moved into my new home in Cleveland Hts. and went directly out to the area grocery stores in search of available gluten-free goodness! So happy to have found Zagara’s. They have many of the products that are staples in my pantry along with some new things for me to try. I am learning the store layout and find it pretty easy to manage. The arrangement at Zagara’s is for product to be comingled on the shelves with the traditional product. The drawback of that for me is that I typically find my shopping trips are short, sweet, and swift when the majority of my products are in one place since I don’t need all the other stuff – typically I avoid interior aisles. But I love that the store is a not superstore sized so the comingling has not really been an issue. If you have a mixed household this is probably a good layout plan.

The BRM line has many options for the gluten-free cook and baker including Rice flours, Tapioca, Almond, Corn, etc.

Recently I purchased a bag of BRM corn flour. When I got it home I noticed that it did not have a gluten-free statement on the package so I contacted the company. According to their representative, BRM has two separate manufacturing facilities – one for traditional processing and another dedicated to gluten-free processing.

It is important if you are purchasing BRM that the package contain the BRM symbol for gluten-free – that symbol will only appear on packages processed in the dedicated facility – the symbol is a red circle with a chaff of wheat in the middle and a slash mark through it to indicate ‘no wheat’.

If there is no symbol then the grain was processed in the traditional facility and cannot be considered gluten-free.

Super beautiful Saturday evening in Cleveland, The Summer Solstice. Heading to the Cleveland Museum of Art Solstice Celebration we stopped first for dinner at Michelangelo’s in Little Italy. While I was not sure what to expect since I will typically call ahead and find out the details of their gluten-free awareness I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are very accommodating. Our server explained that they have gluten-free pasta and lots of sauces to have with it but since I do not typically eat pasta I was more interested in the Entree Offerings. I was not disappointed. The gluten-free options offered included two fish items, duck and tenderloin. The evenings specials included a Mushroom Risotto and a Cioppino – both of which might have appealed to me but which I forgot to inquire about – next time! Our server recommended either the Duck or the Tenderloin coupled with a risotto on the side and I opted for the duck! It was perfectly prepared and totally yummy! She also recommended the Arneis wine which was amazing and which I had never had before. The restaurant was packed – including a huge private party in one of the dining rooms so service was a bit bogged down but our server was attentive and gracious and extremely helpful. (6/14)

All are made single batch – using fresh, locally sourced farm market fruits (when available), organic cane sugar, and farm market creams and milks! To date, all items are gluten-free, some are vegan, and many new flavors are being created.
